Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, include work like roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines and railways. Civil engineering is traditionally broken into a number of sub-disciplines. It is the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering. Civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners to international companies.
In general, civil engineering is concerned with the overall interface of human created fixed projects with the greater world. General civil engineers work closely with surveyors and specialized civil engineers to design grading, drainage, pavement, water supply, sewer service, dams, electric and communication supply. General civil engineering is also referred to as site engineering, a branch of civil engineering that primarily focuses on converting a tract of land from one usage to another. Site engineers spend time visiting project sites, meeting with stakeholders, and preparing construction plans. Civil engineers apply the principles of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, transportation engineering and construction engineering to residential, commercial, industrial and public works projects of all sizes and levels of construction.
The Department of Civil Engineering at ACEM with its multifaceted faculty continues to maintain and cultivate its strong links with the infrastructural industry and academic and research institutions both within and outside the country. Besides high quality teaching, the department is actively involved in basic and applied research and consultancy and provides high quality technical advisory support through various R&D projects and consultancy to various organizations.
It is common for all branches with basic subjects.
It gives the knowledge of civil engineering. It includes subjects like fluid mechanics, structure, surveying, concrete technology, building materials and construction with their labs.
It is based on designing and analysis with subjects like design of concrete structures, design of steel structure, design of hydraulic structure, highway & railway engineering.
It involves the study of advance steel structure, environmental engineering, hydraulic structure, cost and estimation of the structure and also includes six months industrial training.

Students have to prepare a working Project in a group of 3-4 members. Assessment will be done on the basis of their synopsis, project execution, presentation and report, details of which will be provided by the project guide. For any help with regards to study the student can approach subject faculty, who will be available as per schedule/ time table and on working Saturdays at 3rd Floor,Civil staff room.
Civil engineers design, construct, supervise, operate, and maintain large construction projects and systems, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment. Many civil engineers work in design, construction, research, and education.
Civil Engineering is a core andevergreen branch. Since our country is a developing country, therefore construction and maintenance of building and highways, qualified Civil Engineers are required by such construction companies.
There are ample amount of job opportunities for B.E./B.Tech. Civil Engineering graduates inGovernmentas well asPrivatesector. When it comes to Government sector, organizations and departments like- PWD, Irrigation Department, Jal Nigam, BRO, CWC, Indian Railways, DRDO, Indian Armed Forces, BHEL, NHAI, DMRC, State Wise Road Transport boards etc recruits Civil Engineers.
Private sector offers even more job opportunities. Companies like L&T, DLF, JP Infra, Sadbhawna group, Amrapali, Supertech, Reliance infra, BCC Pvt Ltd hire large numbers of Civil Engineers to function efficiently.
Graduates, after completing PG M.Tech program, may take up teaching job also. By pursuing Ph.D program, one may also take up a job in the Research and Development sector.
Civil engineers typically do the following:
Apart from curriculum, the students can participate in various tech fests and non technical programs organized at inter and intra-college level and win various prizes.
